QazTrade discussed the development of global e-commerce

In the period from April 28 to May 11, 2021, employees of QazTrade JSC, at the invitation of the Chinese side, took part in a series of seminars on cooperation of the SCO countries in the field of electronic commerce.

The purpose of the seminar was to discuss current trends and the potential for the development of e-commerce, as well as to consider the state policy of China in the field of e-commerce, through practical cases.

During the seminars, issues of the development of the e-commerce sector in China were considered. In particular, the case was considered of the Chinese center for public services of e-commerce “Yangling”, which was created with the aim of implementing comprehensive government measures for the development of e-commerce: the main models used in China, investment preferences for e-commerce participants, China’s projects in the development of cross-border trade.

In addition, in the course of discussions with representatives of other SCO member states, about 30 practical cases of Chinese companies in the field of e-commerce, such as Pinhaoguo, Shaanguo, Alibaba, Jingdong (JD.com), Suning, Zite Tiaodong (ByteDance) and Tenshiong (Tencent) were considered.

It should be noted that according to UNCTAD estimates, global e-commerce (B2B and B2C) sales in 2019 reached almost $26.7 trln. This is about 4% more than in 2018 ($25.6 trln). The estimated cost of global B2B e-commerce was $21.8 trln., representing 82% of all e-commerce, including both sales through online market platforms and electronic data interchange transactions. The top three in terms of B2C e-commerce sales are China, the United States and the United Kingdom. Also, according to the UNCTAD 2020 Industry Results Report, of the 11 largest global companies in this sector, 4 companies are Chinese, with global gross sales of $1.8 bln.

This seminar was also attended by representatives of government agencies and development institutions of Afghanistan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and Uzbekistan. As a result of the event, the participants received certificates confirming their qualifications in the field of e-commerce.
