The Head of the Department of Subsidies and Safeguard measures of QazTrade JSC, Ainur Amirbekova shared Kazakhstan’s experience in facilitating cross-border paperless trade procedures with the countries of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). The 7th meeting of the Interim Intergovernmental Group of ESCAP was held at the headquarters in Bangkok.
Meeting participants discussed the issues of development of cross-border paperless trade and reviewed the implementation process of the Framework Agreement on Facilitation of Cross-border Paperless Trade in Asia and the Pacific. Including, the results of an assessment of the readiness of countries in the Asia-Pacific region for paperless cross-border trade.
Previously, a group of experts conducted a survey in accordance with the readiness checklists, developed by the ESCAP Intergovernmental Steering Group on Cross-Border Paperless Trade Facilitation, to which Kazakhstan is a member. The National Consultation on Facilitating Cross-border Paperless Trade was co-organized on 9 December 2021 by the Ministry of Trade and Integration, the QazTrade JSC, and the ESCAP, where results of the study on assessment of Kazakhstan’s readiness for cross-border paperless trade were reviewed and further action plan was discussed.
Following a brief overview of trade facilitation implementation in Kazakhstan, the results of the assessment on technical and legal readiness for cross-border paperless trade were presented, recommendations on the technical and legal aspects of cross-border paperless trade and an action plan for Kazakhstan were proposed.
