35 companies of food industry will represent Kazakhstan at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai

Today, the ceremonial opening of Kazakhstani pavilion will be held in Shanghai at the China International Import Expo (CII 2020).

The ceremony was attended by the Extraordinary Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Kazakhstan to China Gabit Koishibayev, representatives of foreign trade organizations, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), more than 30 official foreign delegations. The Minister of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bakhyt Sultanov sent a welcoming speech to the participants of the exhibition.

The Shanghai International Import Expo (CIIE 2020), which is held in China from 5 to 10 November 2020, may become a considerable launching pad for direct entry of Kazakhstani food products into Chinese market.

According to Bakhyt Sultanov, the Minister of Trade and Integration of RK, “CIIE 2020 is one of the most popular B2B trading marketplaces for today. It is particularly relevant in the period of global pandemic restrictions. Within the exhibition, Kazakhstani companies have got an opportunity to find business partners in China. We hope that current exhibition will attract numerous guests interested in acquiring Kazakhstani goods”.

Products of our country are represented by 35 food industry companies – participants of Export Acceleration Program launched by the Ministry of Trade and Integration of RK in July 2020. The Center for Trade Policy Development “QazTrade”, a subordinate organization of the Ministry of Trade and Integration, plays the role of an agent on Kazakhstani export promotion within the Program. The international PwC firm having a great experience in the implementation of such programs renders expert support and assistance. This year, food industry was selected as a focus of the first Program due to a wide export potential, and China became a target sales market. This is explained by high interest of Chinese partners in the food sector of Kazakhstan.

For the last 4 years, the average annual growth rate of food products’ supply volumes from Kazakhstan to China was 47% that represents an increase from USD 31 million in 2015 to USD 146 million in 2019. China selection as a target market is also explained by its capacity, since import volume of food products as of 2019 amounts to USD 54 billion (average annual growth rate was 11% for the last 4 years).

Participation in the Export Acceleration Program provided Kazakhstani companies with a wide range of opportunities for the promotion of products in Chinese market: participation in training webinars on preparation of entry into Chinese market, support at all program stages (preparation of marketing materials, product catalogue, promotional video), preparation of an individual market access chart, promotion of companies in the target market.

Participation in the China International Import Expo is a key stage of current Export Acceleration Program that is expected to result in export contracts for our companies.

It should be noted that the Export Acceleration Program has been developed for the period of 2020 – 2025. During this time, it is planned to engage over 1 thousand Kazakhstani producers. About 300 Kazakhstani companies will gain first experience of entry into international markets and will execute their first export contracts.

Over the past 4 years, the average annual growth rate of food supplies from Kazakhstan to China amounted to 47%, having increased from $31 million in 2015 to $146 million in 2019. China was chosen as a target market due to its capacity – the volume of imports of food products in 2019 was amounted as $54 billion (the average annual growth rate was 11% over the past 4 years).

Chinese Government rates international exhibition as an important step for rendering permanent support to the liberalization of trade and economic globalization, as well as active opening of Chinese market for the whole world. The exhibition promotes economic cooperation between regions, increases the level of international trade and makes world economy more open.

35 national producers will represent products at exhibition in 8 categories: 1) flour-milling industry, starches and starch products, 2) salt, 3) beverages, 4) fish, meat and canned meat, 5) milk products, 6) confectioneries and honey, 7) vegetable oils 8) sauces. Due to pandemic, only product samples will be presented at exhibition. Planned business meetings will be held in online form.
