“QazTrade” attracts Turkish investors to Kazakhstani production

Within the framework of the visit of the Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan M. Tleuberdi, a number of bilateral meetings of the General Director of QazTrade JSC Azamat Askaruly with representatives of the Turkish business community took place.

In Ankara, meetings were held with Turkish entrepreneurs implementing projects in Kazakhstan in such industries as electronics, respirator production, energy, food processing, wholesale and retail trade, etc.

Thus, the Femas Group company is preparing to launch a large project for the production of household electrical appliances in the Almaty region, the MFA Maske company plans to launch a respirator production plant on the territory of the Astana-New City FEZ in the near future. Also in the field of medicine, a number of projects are being implemented jointly with Orhun Medical and Royal Hijyen.

Kayaturk Group is implementing a project for the construction of a shopping and entertainment center in the city of Nursultan.

Most of the joint projects are export-oriented industries. In this regard, the companies were informed about the targeted measures of state support for exports, which they can use.

Also in Istanbul, bilateral meetings were held with such large Turkish holdings as Calik, TAV, Yildyrym, KOC, Kibar, GOKNUR GIDA, Atabay. During the meetings, a list of issues on attracting Turkish investments to export-oriented projects in Kazakhstan was discussed, in particular, the implementation of a large project for the production of sugar in the Pavlodar region (Çalık Holding), the production of tomato paste in industrial volumes in the Almaty region (Koc Holding), the production of calcined salt in the Kyzylorda region (Yildyrym), the production of aluminum coils in the Pavlodar region (Kibar), the development of intensive horticulture (GOKNUR GIDA), as well as the development of the transportation sector and the export of related services (TAV Holding).

Together with the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Turkey, Mr. A. Saparbekuly, a large gelatin factory Iskefe, the largest holding company engaged in the production of high-quality leather, was visited.

In addition, during the visit, a meeting was held with the leadership of the secretariat of the Turkish Turquality program – the Turkish Exporters’ Assemblies (TIM). During the meeting, the importance of developing cooperation in promoting finished products in foreign markets, as well as interest in exchanging experience in the field of forming domestic brands following the example of Turkey, was noted.

On March 19, a meeting was held with a large Turkish company Doganlar, which implements projects in the field of construction and household electrical appliances. During the meeting, issues of investing in the ORC project, participation in the program for the economy of simple things and the construction of a furniture factory under the Dogtac brand were discussed. The company was presented with a range of government support measures that it can apply for in the event of a project for the production of high value added products.

Despite the decrease in the total trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Turkey in 2020 by 5.1% to US $ 3.1 billion, there is an increase in trade in processed goods by 13.5% (US $ 1.7 billion). This testifies to the mutual interest of the parties to trade in high value added products. So, there is an increase in the export of goods such as copper, aluminum, ferroalloys. Kazakhstan began exporting silver and zinc to the Republic of Turkey.

Kazakhstan has the potential to increase its exports to the Turkish market in 50 items of goods for a total of US $ 366 million, in such industries as metallurgy, food, chemical, petrochemical, mechanical engineering, construction goods and pharmaceuticals.

For reference: Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Turkey in 2020 amounted to USD 3.1 billion, which is 5.1% lower than in 2019 (USD 3.2 billion).

Exports from Kazakhstan to Turkey in 2020 decreased by 11.9% and amounted to 2.1 billion US dollars, imports for the same period increased by 15% and amounted to 939.6 million US dollars.

The Turkish Turquality program includes several areas of support from the training component, the provision of consulting services, to the receipt of financial support measures by the enterprise.

Since 2006, the pride has purposefully supported 200 companies with the provision of a full range of incentive measures to reimburse the company’s costs for hiring individual employees abroad.
