  • The trade turnover amounted to 17,754.3 billion tenge (decreased by 8.2% compared to last year)
    • Retail trade turnover amounted to 5,608.8 billion tenge (decreased by 5.7% compared to last year)
    • Wholesale trade turnover amounted to 11,953.2 billion tenge (decreased by 7.6% compared to last year)
  • By types of goods for the period January-July 2020:
    • In the retail trade, there is an increase in the volume of trade in food products by 265.5 billion tenge or 14%, while the volume of trade in non-food products decreased by 606.4 billion tenge or by 14.9%
    • In the wholesale trade, the volume of trade in food products decreased by 498.1 million tenge or 17.4%, non-food products decreased by 485.7 billion tenge or 4.8%.

    • turnover of medium-sized enterprises in retail trade amounted to KZT 528.5 billion (increased by 21.9% compared to last year),in wholesale trade amounted to 1,997.2 (increased by 11.3% compared to last year)
    • turnover of large enterprises in retail trade amounted to 1,160.1 billion tenge (increased by 1.3% compared to last year), in wholesale trade amounted to 472.4 (decreased by 9.6% compared to last year)
  • Inventories as of August 1, 2020:
    • The volume of inventory in retail trade amounted to 690.8 billion tenge (increased by 27.5% compared to last year)
    • The volume of inventories in wholesale trade amounted to 785.6 billion tenge (decreased by 8.8% compared to last year)
  • Index of actual volume of investments in trade in January-June 2020 amounted to 50.8% (decreased by 75.8% compared to last year)
  • Investments in January-June 2020 amounted to 61.1 billion tenge (down 48% compared to last year)

  • implementing quarantine measures throughout the country and the restriction of shopping facilities, food services etc.
  • depreciation of the national currency, which reduced the purchasing power of the population

INDEX OF ACTUAL VOLUME OF TRADE FOR JANUARY-JULY 2020 – 88.1%

Index of actual volume of trade in January-July amounted to 88.1%. This is 19.4% lower than the same period of last year, or 1.3% lower than in January-June this year.

The key factors behind the decline in trade volumes were:

  • implementing quarantine measures throughout the country and the restriction of shopping facilities, food services etc.
  • depreciation of the national currency, which reduced the purchasing power of the population

DYNAMICS OF TRADE VOLUME INDEX IN JANUARY-JULY 2020

Index of actual volume of trade in July 2020 compared to the corresponding month of last year amounted to 81.9%. From the beginning of the year to July, there has been a negative dynamics of trade volume index due to the spread of coronavirus infection, which began in China and, as a result, had an impact on the trade sector of Kazakhstan. The minimum point in index of actual volume of trade was recorded in April 2020. There has been a gradient increase in trade volume index from April to June, but there is a slight decrease in July.

INDEX OF ACTUAL VOLUME OF WHOLESALE AND RETAIL TRADE

Index of actual volume of retail trade decreased by 17.1%, while index of actual volume of wholesale trade fell by 18.6%. For the period January-July 2020, the index of actual volume of retail trade showed negative dynamics in all regions, in turn, the index of wholesale trade showed positive dynamics in Zhambyl region and Nur-Sultan city.

RETAIL AND WHOLESALE TRADE TURNOVER

The wholesale and retail trade turnover in January-July 2020 compared to the same period of last year decreased by KZT 1,583.9 billion, or 8.2%.

However, there is an increase in trade turnover in Akmola, Zhambyl, North Kazakhstan regions, and Shymkent city.

RETAIL AND WHOLESALE TRADE TURNOVER

The volume of wholesale and retail trade in January-July 2020 compared to the same period of last year decreased by KZT 1,583.9 billion, or 8.2%. Retail turnover decreased by KZT 340.9 billion, which is 5.7%, wholesale trade turnover decreased by KZT 983.7 billion or 7.6%.

In the volume of retail trade, growth is noted in Aktobe, Almaty, Zhambyl, Karaganda, North Kazakhstan, Turkestan regions and in Shymkent. The largest decline was noted in Almaty by 243.7 billion tenge. In the volume of wholesale trade, growth was noted in Akmola, West Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, North Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan and in the cities Nur-Sultan and Shymkent. A significant decline was noted in the city of Almaty by 668.4 billion tenge and in the Atyrau region by 365.4 billion tenge.

RETAIL TRADE TURNOVER

For the period January-July 2020, compared to the same period of last year, there is an increase in the volume of trade in food products by 265.5 billion tenge or 14%, while the volume of trade in non-food products decreased by 606.4 billion tenge, which amounted to 14,9%. This is due to the fact that in connection with the establishing of quarantine measures throughout the country and the restriction of shopping facilities, the population increased the demand for food products, then most stores selling non-food products were closed, which affected a significant decrease in the volume of trade in non-food products. However, in Aktobe, Zhambyl and Kostanay regions, there is an increase in the volume of trade in non-food products.

WHOLESALE TRADE TURNOVER

In the wholesale trade, there is a decrease in the trade turnover of food products by 498.1 billion tenge or 17.4%, while trade of non-food products decreased by 485.7 billion tenge, which amounted to 4.8% compared to the same period last year. of the year. The largest decrease in the volume of trade in food products was noted in Almaty – by 503.5 billion tenge. The greatest increase in the volume of trade in non-food products was noted in Nur-Sultan – by 179.6 billion tenge.

TRADE TURNOVER DEVIDED BY SIZES OF ENTERPRISES

Among the retail trade enterprises, the turnover of small enterprises, which occupies the overwhelming majority of the share of turnover, decreased by 377.8 billion tenge or by 8.8%. In turn, the turnover of medium and large enterprises increased by 21.9 and 15 billion tenge, respectively, which amounted to 4.3% and 1.3%.

Among the wholesalers, the turnover of small businesses decreased by 1,136.1 billion tenge, or 10.7%. The turnover of large enterprises decreased by 50 billion tenge, or 9.6%. In turn, the turnover of medium-sized enterprises increased by 202.5 billion tenge or 11.3%.

VOLUME OF INVENTORY IN RETAIL AND WHOLESALE ENTERPRISES

As of August 1, 2020, the volume of inventory in wholesale trade decreased by 75.9 billion tenge or 8.8% compared to the same date last year, while inventory in retail trade increased by 148.9 billion tenge, or by 27.5%.

The reason for the decline in wholesale trade stocks was the establishment of quarantine measures, problems with logistics (including a decrease in imports from China) and the restriction of the activities of large retail facilities.

INDEX OF ACTUAL VOLUME OF INVESTMENT IN TRADE

For the period January-June 2020, compared to the same period in 2019, there is a decrease in index of actual volume of investments in trade by 75.8%. The increase of index of actual volume of investments in trade was noted in the Karaganda region, Nur-Sultan city, East Kazakhstan, Atyrau and Kyzylorda regions.

VOLUME OF INVESTMENT IN TRADE

For the period January-June 2020, compared to the same period in 2019, there is a decrease in investments in wholesale and retail trade, repair of cars and motorcycles by 56.3 billion tenge or 48%. An increase in investments was noted in Akmola, Karaganda, East Kazakhstan regions.
