- The wholesale turnover was 14,083.7 billion tenge (decreased by 7.3 % compared with the previous year)
- According to the type of products for the period January – August, 2020:
- In the retail segment there is an increase in the volume of trade in food products by 339.8 billion tenge or 15 %, while the volume of trade in non-food products decreased by 573.7 billion tenge or 11.9 %
- In the wholesale segment the volume of trade in food products decreasedby 515.9 billion tenge or 15.7 %, the volume of trade in non-food products decreased by 586.6 billion tenge or 4.9 %
- According to the enterprise size for the period January – August, 2020:
- the turnover of the small enterprises in the retail trade was 4, 827.2 billion tenge (decreased by 5.4 % compared with the previous year), in the wholesale trade it was 11, 205.2 (decreased by 10.4 % compared with the previous year)
- the turnover of the medium-sized enterprises in the retail trade was 616.5 billion tenge (increased by 3.7 % compared with the previous year), in the wholesale trade it was 2, 334.8 (increased by 12.1 % compared with the previous year)
- the turnover of the large enterprises in the retail trade was 1,365.2 billion tenge (increased by 1.6 % compared with the previous year), in the wholesale trade it was 543.6 (decreased by 9.7 % compared with the previous year)
- According to the stocks as of September, 1, 2020:
- The volume of stocks in the retail trade was 703.0 billion tenge (increased by 29.5 % compared with the previous year)
- The volume of stocks in the wholesale trade was 819.9 billion tenge (decreased by 10 % compared with the previous year)
- Index of actual volume of investments in trade for the period January – August, 2020 was 59.4 % (decreased by 61 % compared with the previous year)
- Investments for the period January – August, 2020 were 87.6 % (decreased by 39.5 % compared with the previous year)
The key factors of the decrease in trade were:
- the introduction of quarantine measures throughout the country and the restriction of the activities of shopping facilities, food services, etc.
- devaluation of the national currency, which reduced the purchasing power of the population
Index of actual volume of trade for the period January – August was 89.5 %. This is by 18.1 percentage points lower of the same period of the previous year, or by 1,4 percentage points higher, than it was in the period January – July of this year.
The key factors of the decrease in trade were:
- the introduction of quarantine measures throughout the country and the restriction of the activities of shopping facilities, food services, etc.
- devaluation of the national currency, which reduced the purchasing power of the population

DYNAMICS OF INDEX OF ACTUAL VOLUME OF TRADE FOR THE PERIOD JANUARY – AUGUST, 2020
Index of actual volume of trade for August, 2020 to the corresponding month of the previous year was 96.8 %. From the beginning of the year to August (included) the negative dynamics of the index of actual volume of trade due to the spread of coronavirus infection has been observed. The maximum decline of the index of actual volume of trade was recorded in April, 2020. A sharp fall of index of actual volume of trade can be seen with the introduction of quarantine measures in April and June. Generally, for the period from April to August (included) a smooth increase of index of actual volume of trade has observed.
Index of actual volume of retail trade decreased by 15 %, while an index of actual volume of wholesale trade – by 18. 5 %. For the period January – August, 2020 the index of actual volume of retail and wholesale trade showed the negative dynamics in all regions.
VOLUME OF RETAIL AND WHOLESALE TRADE TURNOVER
The volume of wholesale and retail trade for the period January – August, 2020 compared with the same period of the previous year, decreased by 1,546.5 billion tenge or 6.8 %. However, there is an increase in commodity turnover in Akmola, West Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, Kostanay, Kyzylorda, North Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan regions, Nur-Sultan and Shymkent cities.
VOLUME OF RETAIL AND WHOLESALE TRADE TURNOVER
The volume of wholesale and retail trade for the period January – August, 2020 compared with the same period of the previous year, decreased by
1,546.5 billion tenge or 6.8 %. Where, the retail turnover decreased by 233.9 billion tenge, which is 3.3 %, wholesale turnover decreased by 1,102.6 billion tenge 7.3 %.
There is an increase in the volume of retail trade in Aqtobe, Almaty, West Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, Karaganda, Kostanay, Kyzylorda, North Kazakhstan, Turkestan regions and Shymkent city. The largest decline by 164,1 billion tenge was recorded in Almaty city. There is an increase in the volume of wholesale trade in Akmola, West Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, North Kazakhstan, East Kazakstan regions and in Nur-Sultan and Shymkent cities. A significant decline by 842.2 billion tenge in Almaty city and by 424.2 billion tenge in Atyrau city was recorded.
For the period January – June, 2020, compared with the same period of the previous year, there is an increase in the volume of trade in food products by 339.8 billion tenge or 15 %, while the volume of trade in non-food products decreased by 573.7 billion tenge or 11.9 %. The necessity for this is that due to the introduction of quarantine measures throughout the country and the restriction of the activities of shopping facilities, the population increased the demand for food products, while most shops, selling non-food products, were closed, which affected a significant decrease in the volume of trade in non-food products. However, there is an increase in the volume of trade in non – food products in Aktobe, Zhambyl, Kostanay and Pavlodar regions.
There is a decrease in the volume of trade in food products in wholesale trade by 515,9 billion tenge or 15.7 %, while the trade in non – food products decreased by 586.6 billion tenge or 4.9 %, compared with the same period of the previous year. The largest decrease in the volume of trade in food products was noted in Almaty city – by 554.5 billion tenge. The largest increase in the volume of trade in non – food products was noted in Nur – Sultan city – by 256.1 billion tenge.
Among the retail trade enterprises the commodity turnover of small enterprises, which occupies extraordinary majority of the share of commodity turnover, decreased by 277.3 billion tenge or 5.4 %. Whereas, the turnover of medium – sized and large enterprises increased by 22.1 and 21.4 billion tenge, accordingly, 3.7 % and 1.6 %.
Among the wholesale trade enterprises the turnover of small enterprises decreased by 1,295.4 billion tenge or 10.4 %. The turnover of large enterprises decreased by 58.6 billion tenge or 9.7 % . Whereas, the turnover of medium – sized enterprises increased by 251.3 billion tenge or 12.1 %.
As of September, 1, 2020 the volume of inventory in wholesale trade decreased by 91 billion tenge or 10 % , compared with the same date of the previous year, whereas stocks in retail trade increased by 160,2 billion tenge or 29.5 %.
The reason for the wholesale stocks decrease was the introduction of quarantine measures, problems with logistics (including a decrease in imports from China) and restriction on the activities of large shopping facilities.
For the period January – August, 2020, compared with the same period in 2019, there is a 61 % decrease in index of actual volume of investments in trade.
For the period January – August, 2020, compared with the same period in 2019, there is decrease in investments in the wholesale and retail trade, repair of cars and motorcycles by 57.1 billion tenge or 39.5 %. The increase of investments was noted in Akmola, Atyrau, Karaganda, Kyzylorda, Turkestan, East Kazakhstan regions and Shymkent city.
